Cecil Yates Memorial Scholarship

Donated by Marion Yates and the Yates family in memory of Cecil. Cecil H. Yates joined the WCCC faculty 9-1-79. His first task was the development and promotion of an associate program in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement. He served the New Kensington community for 14 years as a police officer, resigning as chief of police in 1962. In 1980, he initiated a Municipal Police Officer’s Training Program at Westmoreland County Community College. Since its inception, the program has provided police officers with the knowledge and training necessary to perform today’s law enforcement tasks, as well as the basic foundation upon which the officer may continue to enhance his police skills and academic knowledge.
